History
I established Body Mechanics after working for six years at an amazing Pilates Studio in San Francisco, California called Simply Balanced. It was such an incredible environment to work in, and I learned so much there about running a business that opening my own seemed to be the natural progression when I relocated to Portland in 2007. I also couldn't imagine working for anyone else, so I decided to create my own space, and found the perfect little spot to do it, formerly Elizabeth's, a little used furniture store on SE Hawthorne. It started out as a one-woman operation, but I got busy quickly and the business has grown progressively. We moved to our current location just off of SE Division on 35th Place in August, 2011 (also a former furniture store), and have tripled our space as well as expanded our offerings. All the practitioners within the space are pioneers-- and each of us has our own unique approach to the body and facilitating change within it.
