History
Second Chance had its beginnings in the garage of an old farmhouse on the east side of Norman. Makeshift kennels, the handiwork of enthusiastic volunteers, held the stray dogs and cats that were our sanctuary's first Their first adoption event took place at the Kinko's on the corner of Boyd and Jenkins and resulted in the adoption of 47 of the 50 animals taken directly from the Norman Animal Shelter. On March 2, 1989, Second Chance Animal Sanctuary incorporated as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, and early members proceeded to establish and confirm the mission and goals that continue to guide us today. In the early 90s, we moved a storefront in a tiny strip mall on north Porter. In the late 1990's, a campaign began to construct the building that houses Second Chance today. Since that time we have expanded our facility to include covered carport runs shorelines, outside pens, and a transport van, as well as updating veterinary equip., washers/dryers, and more!
