History
The newly renovated, $1.1 million dollar nine-hole golf course located at 824 Fredrick Douglas Avenue, was reopened June 7, 1999. It was named for a northeastern Oklahoma City civil rights and community leader and is located on the site of the old Eastern Golf Course, which was closed more than 20 years ago. The new golf facility also includes a driving range and a pro shop in the renovated Douglass Park Community Center. The driving range, which opened last year, was built with donated materials and labor plus $150,000 from the city's general fund. The James E. Stewart Golf Course, funded through the 1995 general obligation bond program, is part of a comprehensive recreational program for the Douglass Park area in northeast Oklahoma City.
