The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services develops and oversees programs and services that are designed to help Ohioans become independent through education, employment, job skills and training. Its Office for Children and Families is responsible for state-level administration and overseeing of programs that prevent child abuse and neglect. The department s adoption programs provide support to local agencies in their efforts to decrease the number of children waiting for permanent homes. It also prevents discrimination in the placement of children and identifies and recruits permanent families who can meet every child s needs. The department s Food Stamp program is designed to raise nutritional levels, expand buying power, and safeguard the health and well-being of individuals in low-income households in Ohio. Additionally, it offers child care and support, disability financial assistance, unemployment compensation, adult protection, and foster and kinship care services.
