Risk Management in Cincinnati, OH is a unique partnership called the Higher Education Mentoring Initiative (HEMI) that aims to support and encourage the academic achievement of foster students in Hamilton County. The program recruits mentors to spend approximately two hours a week mentoring high school students through their junior and senior years and their pursuit of a degree or certificate. HEMI has successfully served 50 students in the past year, with most of them going on to pursue higher education at various schools.
The program requires participants to fill out an application, undergo a background check, and complete an interview process. Selected mentors will attend a training program before meeting the foster students in September. To learn more about becoming a mentor, interested individuals can attend an information session or contact the UC HEMI Program Coordinator.
