The Gurdjieff Foundation of Ohio is a non-profit educational corporation that was founded in 1963 to promote the harmonious development of individuals based on the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff. With a close relationship to The Gurdjieff Foundation, New York, the Ohio Foundation draws members from Ohio and Michigan and is affiliated with other major centers for the Gurdjieff teaching across the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. G.I. Gurdjieff, born in Armenia in 1866, embarked on a quest for ancient wisdom that led him to develop a distinctive teaching rooted in Asian and Western traditions. After settling near Paris, he established the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man and continued to teach until his death in 1949.
