The Marietta Times was established in 1874, ending a long line of smaller newspapers in the Marietta, Ohio, area. On Jan. 8, 1831, John Brough bought the defunct Pilot paper and began the Western Republic and Marietta Advertiser. He was indirectly responsible for what would later become The Marietta Times and The Cincinnati Enquirer. The paper serves southeastern Ohio and north central West Virginia. It also produces two weekly publications, Times Plus and River Times. Times Plus is delivered each week to all nonsubscribers in Washington County. River Times serves readers in St. Marys, W.Va. The paper is active in community affairs. A variety of hotlines and The Marietta Times Web site give readers easy access to the paper. The Web site often draws more than 120,000 visitors per month. The Marietta Times is headquartered in Marietta.
