Formed in 1926, the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District (MVSD) provides water to the residents of the Mahoning Valley in Ohio. The district is a political subdivision of the state of Ohio that is established under the authority of the Sanitary Act of Ohio. It receives water supply from Meander Creek Reservoir, which covers more than 2,000 acres of area and has a capacity to produce over 11 billion gallons of water. The Mahoning Valley Sanitary District owns nearly 5,500 acres of land that is enclosed by approximately 35 miles of fence. The district furnishes water to its member cities of Youngstown and Niles, as well as to the Village of McDonald.
