Located in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the Knox County Sheriff's Office preserves human lives and property, protects public peace and the rights of citizens, prevents crime and disorder and enforces local, state and federal laws. It undertakes cases related to domestic violence, missing persons, noise violations, accident reporting and crime investigations. The Knox County Sheriff's Office has a civil division that responds to legal processes directed to the sheriff, including writs of execution, evictions, notices, provisional and enforcement processes, and various other court orders and documents. Established in 1808, the office also maintains a detective division that is responsible for the investigation of major crimes, including homicide, robbery, burglary, arson, drug offense, child abuse, sexual offenses, unnatural deaths and document cases.
