The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation provides several investigative services, such as scientific analysis of crime scenes and evidence and covert law enforcement support, as well as performs criminal background checks for weapons permit applicants and prospective employees. It houses the state s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which contains millions of fingerprints, as well as criminal records and the electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification (eSORN) database. The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, headquartered in London, Ohio, also maintains a presence across the state with regional laboratories and offices in Richfield, Bowling Green, Boardman and Cambridge, Ohio.
