Medina Church of Christ has a desire to let the Bible speak for itself. What we strive to teach and believe comes only from God's word. ( 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 ) Medina Church of Christ uses the New Testament as our authority pertaining to the work, worship and organization of the local church. We are independent, self-governing ( Eldership ), and totally non-denominational. We have no written creed but trust only in God's word ' The Bible. We constantly engage in Bible study to expand our understanding and practice what we learn from the scriptures ( 2 Timothy 2: 15 ). Our desire is to teach others to respect Christ's authority so that they too will submit and follow Christ according to his will and not their own ( Matthew 28: 19-20 ) Medina Church of Christ history: In 1944, a congregation of the Lord's Church was established in Medina, Ohio. The congregation was established by members who were driving to Akron, Ohio to attend worship services. Due to the ongoing World War, a shortage of gasoline and automobile tires made it difficult to travel any distance, so a local congregation was established. Services were first held in the Princess Theater building on the town square. Joe H. Morris of the Thayer Street congregation in Akron preached the first sermon and conducted the first Gospel Meeting in 1944. About two years after being established, Charles Hendershot became the first full-time minister. The congregation erected a meeting house on North Broadway which was used for several years. On April 14, 1968, the congregation moved to its present location on Forest Meadows Drive. During 1999, the building underwent a major renovation to the auditorium and foyer area, with the downstairs area renovation in early 2006. The overseeing of the congregation has been by the Elders, appointed by the members according to the guidelines found in the Bible. The Church has been led by the following Elders: Stanley Hall, John Phillis, Robert Ferandez, Ray Kercher, Hugh Waldrop, Wayne Williamson, Leonard Meadows, Jim Duty, Ken Miller, Ken Barefield and David Bledsoe. Charles Merkle, Alan Easterday, and Roger Bates presently serve as Elders. In addition to Charles Hendershot, the following men have served as Ministers: Floyd Ross, Bobby Holloway, Jack Duty, Lloyd Barker, Ken Miller, Steve Chapman, and Robert Willie. Jim Duty is the present Minister. He and his wife, Mona, have served the congregation since November 1979. If you are in the Medina Area, we extend to you a warm welcome and ask that you stop by and worship with us. It is our wish to only do the work the Lord has set before us, we think your visit will be uplifting and encouraging as you travel life's pathways. We look forward to seeing you. May God Bless.
