Founded in 1984, Amethyst provides long-term support and affordable housing to women who are recovering from addictions. The organization has more than 90 permanent and over 10 transitional housing units. Its adult services include long-term alcohol and drug addiction treatment and therapeutic services; counseling for physical, emotional and sexual abuse; intensive, individualized case management; and permanent supportive housing. Amethyst also offers individual, group and family counseling, babysitting, GED preparation, grief and loss counseling, job skills and retention training, health and wellness classes, relapse prevention and mental health services. The organization also provides family-centered services that include parenting classes, family therapy, after school drop-in center, therapeutic summer camp, violence and disease prevention, and alcohol, drug and tobacco prevention education.
