A fire in 1893 destroyed nearly all of Fargo, N.D., and bricklayer Thomas Powers moved his family from St. Paul, Minn., to help rebuild the community. More than a century later, the company he founded, T. F. Powers Construction, is still building. The general contractor, still located in Fargo, builds commercial and public buildings of distinction, completing projects in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado and Nebraska. The company is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Minnesota and the Associated General Contractors of North Dakota. In fact, two past presidents of the AGC of North Dakota, including its first, came from Powers.
