The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services, also known as NDDES, has more than 50 legislatively authorized positions. It is comprised of the divisions of homeland security and state radio. The department provides 24-hour emergency communications and resource coordination with over 50 lead and support agencies, private enterprise and voluntary organizations to assist local jurisdictions in disaster and emergency response activities. The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services administers federal disaster recovery programs and the Homeland Security Grant Program. It also supports response and recovery coordination with emergency managers throughout the state of North Dakota. The department also manages the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which serves as a national clearinghouse though which member states request and provide mutual aid assistance. The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services is located in Bismarck, N.D.
