Organized in 1949, Central Power Electric Cooperative Inc. is a wholesale electrical generation and transmission cooperative. Currently, the company is a preference customer of Western Area Power Administration, as well as a Class A member of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Based in Minot, N.D., it serves more than 54,000 farms, homes, as well as businesses located in 25 counties across the central and southeastern portion of North Dakota. Central Power Electric Cooperative Inc.'s facilities include 122 distribution substations, 24 high-voltage transmission stations, over 1,000 miles of transmission line and three investor owned utilities. The company is affiliated with many organizations, such as the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) and North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NDAREC).
