Watauga County Parks & Recreation is one of the departments operated by the government of Watauga County, N.C. The department, located in Boone, N.C., provides a wide variety of recreational programs in the areas of arts, youth and adult athletics, and special programs and events, including Special Olympics, aquatics and summer youth camps. It offers a range of facilities for county residents, such as a gymnasium, community clubhouse, and multipurpose athletic fields. The department also offers various other facilities, including parks, tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, picnic shelters, and outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Watauga County Parks & Recreation, founded in 1973, is advised by a recreation commission, which is appointed by the Watauga County s board of commissioners. The department also provides recreational equipment and facilities on rent.
