Welcome to The Historic Magnolia House. This beautiful Victorian home was built in 1889 as a private residence. It later was owned by the Gist Family and served as the only Motel between Atlanta & Richmond, VA where blacks could stay during segregation in the 50s & 60s. The Magnolia House Motel accommodated notable African Americans such as Ray Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, James Brown, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson,Ruth Brown, James Baldwin, and many others. Today, patrons can enjoy a glimpse of this rich history while creating their own experiences in the revitalized downtown Greensboro area.
