The Shelby Police Department preserves human lives and property, protects public peace and the rights of citizens, prevents crime and disorder and enforces federal laws. Located in Shelby, N.C., it employs a staff of more than 80 full- and part-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. The department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Shelby Police Department s operations division is comprised of patrol, community policing, K-9 and street crime units. It also has an investigations division that includes criminal investigation, crime scene search, and vice and narcotics units, as well as an alcohol bureau.
