Saluda Fire and Rescue is a dedicated department serving a rural community of approximately 3100 residents in Saluda, North Carolina. With a team of 36 active members, including two 24-hour shift firefighter EMTs, they provide a range of emergency services, including structural and wildland firefighting, rescue operations, EMS first response, and hazmat operations.
Not only do they serve their own community, but they also offer mutual aid to five neighboring departments, covering an additional 174 square miles and 33,000 residents. Located in a mountain community at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Saluda Fire and Rescue faces unique challenges, including a high traffic volume of over 125,000 vehicles a day on Interstate 26 and US Highway 176. Despite these challenges, they remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of their residents and visitors.
