Pride in North Carolina, established in 1988 and located in Elizabeth City, N.C., provides services to persons of all ages with mental illness and disabilities, behavioral disorders and physical disabilities. The institution serves the communities of Camden, Chowan, Pasquotank and Perquimmans counties in North Carolina. The services are designed in collaboration with individuals, family and guardians. The organization provides support to children and families through services in the home designed to assist parents in learning more effective parenting strategies and the child to learn more adaptive coping skills. It serves chronically mentally ill adults in their own homes, community and group home settings. The treatment for adults includes learning to manage their illnesses, recognize decompensation triggers and to develop the skills, social networks, and resources to live as independently as possible.
