Founded in 1957, the North Carolina Department of Administration is a part of the North Carolina state government. The department oversees government operations, such as building construction, goods purchasing, state vehicles management and real estate acquisition. It also offers auxiliary services, including courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. In addition, the North Carolina Department of Administration provides internal services that include the maintenance of state-owned buildings and grounds and police security for state government facilities. The department operates the Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses, which offers advocacy services for businesses owned by minorities, women and persons with disabilities. It also operates a mail service center and motor fleet management division.
