New Hanover County Fire Rescue Department, also known as NHCFR, is a government-based fire department for New Hanover County, located on the southeast coast of North Carolina. The department is a combination of full time, part time and volunteer staff. New Hanover County contracts with various volunteer firefighting agencies to help provide fire protection for the unincorporated areas of the county. NHCFR responds to an average of more than 6,500 emergency calls per year that comprises emergency medical, fire suppression, automobile accidents, technical rescues and hazardous materials. Its firefighters are trained emergency medical technicians that assist local rescue squads with patient care and in removing trapped occupants of the vehicle.
