The Clerk of Court is the constitutional custodian of various court records. It has original jurisdiction over matters relating to the probate of wills and the administration of estates, including appointing personal representatives, auditing their accounting and removing them from office. The clerk also presides over many other legal matters, such as adoptions, incompetency proceedings, the condemnation of private lands for public use and foreclosures. Located in Wilimington, N.C., the Clerk of Court is responsible for a variety of clerical and record keeping functions of the district and superior court. In addition, it receives and disburses money collected each year from court fees and fines.
