Metro School serves more than 200 students from 5 to 22 years who are cognitively disabled and have been determined by their individual education program team as needing the restrictiveness of a public separate school placement. The school offers instruction in reading, writing, math, science, music, art, media skills, horticulture, consumer science, prevocational and vocational skill and adapted physical education. It also offers occupational, physical, speech and language therapies. The school assigns students to chronologically aged classrooms across grade level teams. It additionally has a parent-teacher association that organizes several fundraising events. Metro School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is located in Charlotte, N.C. It is a part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
