The Public Health department works to meet the medical care needs of individuals, families, and domestic and stray animals in Lee County in North Carolina. It offers family planning, immunization, health checkup coordination and prenatal care services. The department provides health screening, sexually transmitted disease treatment, maternity care and pregnancy testing services. It offers medical history reviewing services, as well as treats digestive disorders, minor lacerations and injuries, and ear, throat and respiratory infections. The Public Health department also maintains an animal shelter that protects the community members from stray, unvaccinated and dangerous animals. Additionally, it maintains the Women, Infant and Children Supplemental Food Program, which focuses on individualized nutrition assessment and counseling solutions, as well as the issuance of food vouchers. The department is governed by Lee County Government.
