The National Board for Certified Counselors, also known as NBCC, is one of the leading professional certification agencies in the United States. It is an independent, nonprofit credentialing body for the general and specialty practices of professional counseling. Incorporated in 1982, the agency promotes professional counseling to private and government organizations. The National Board for Certified Counselors offers specialty certification in the areas of school, addiction and clinical mental health counseling. It is also an accrediting body for the National Organization for Competency Assurance. The agency operates a center that provides certified counselor liability insurance solutions. The National Board for Certified Counselors manages StudentWorks, which is a Web-based center that assists students in assessing up-to-date information about the field of counseling.
