The Greensboro Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains transportation infrastructure and operates municipal transit. The department provides traffic signals and signs, transportation planning, parking, street lighting, sidewalks and bikeways services to citizens, businesses and visitors. It maintains more than 45,000 traffic signs throughout the city and installs over 5,000 new traffic signs annually. The department also offers management of the state motor pool that includes highway, bridge and rest area maintenance. In addition, it governs public transportation and rail programs planning and highway traffic safety. The Greensboro Department of Transportation maintains a staff of more than 75 employees and is located in Greensboro, N.C.
