Carteret County Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of leisure, educational, sports and recreational programs, maintains and schedules a system of parks and facilities, and acquires land for preservation, open space and park development programs. Its adopt-a-park program provides an opportunity for local groups and organizations to help improve and maintain parklands and facilities in Carteret County, N.C. The program is designed for volunteers to do work, such as cleanups, tree and flower planting, maintenance, painting, weeding and other special projects. It also offers programs, such as basic dog obedience classes, opportunities at Cape Lookout National Seashore, art classes, annual Easter egg hunts, jamborees, and surf camps.
