The Food and Drug Protection Division, a part of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, offers inspection services for food items, drugs, cosmetics and automotive anti-freezes. The division is responsible for the regulatory oversight of wholesale and retail frozen dessert manufacturers in the state. It conducts chemical analysis tests to offer protection against unsafe, deceptive and fraudulent products. The Food and Drug Protection Division assesses various types of nursery and plant pest eradication activities. The division s food branch conducts unannounced inspections on products offered by food manufacturers and distributors. In addition, it provides registration and licensing programs for butter manufacturers and milk haulers.
