Food Bank of the Albemarle, founded in 1982, is an organization providing food to the poor and needy in northeastern North Carolina through direct assistance, support services advocacy and nonprofit agencies. Its food programs include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and the Emergency Food Assistance Program that are government commodity distribution programs. It provides juices, frozen turkeys, pastas, sauces, canned fruits and vegetables, milk and cereals. It is a member of the America's Second Harvest that accepts large food donations from processors, distributors, farmers and retail corporations. It receives donations from local individuals, churches, organizations, restaurants, businesses, farmers and grocery stores. The organization serves more than 15 counties in northeastern North Carolina and has more than 100 nonprofit member agencies. The organization is headquartered in Elizabeth City, N.C.
