The Fayetteville Museum of Art, located in a small building on Stamper Road off of Bragg Boulevard, once held famous documents and artwork that were native to Fayetteville. The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Museum of Art voted to close the museum on May 31, 2010, until further notice. Museum representatives say they have hopes that it can reopen at a future date. Board members say they are sincerely grateful to the supporters and staff who kept the community's art museum viable for 38 years. Community residents have expressed disappointment, as the building and landmark still stand. “It’s been a challenging time," said Meredith Stiehl, the museum's president. "Numerous emotional and financial issues have been addressed by all of us on the board, making this a very difficult decision. It has been a wonderful privilege for the museum to serve the countless visitors from our immediate area."
