West Harlem Environmental Action Inc, also known as WE ACT, is a non-profit organization based in New York City. Their mission is to build healthy communities by advocating for the participation of people of color and low-income residents in the development of fair environmental health and protection policies. They work towards achieving strong and equal environmental protections, increased environmental health through community-based research, and evidence-based campaigns. WE ACT envisions a community where residents are informed, engaged, and have a say in decisions that impact their health and community.
WE ACT is part of the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum, a national coalition of 54 environmental justice organizations working together to advance climate justice. They offer various programs and initiatives, including environmental justice education, leadership training, worker training, and workforce development. Through their advocacy efforts, they aim to address environmental issues affecting urban underrepresented communities and promote sustainable and equitable land use, clean air, healthy homes, and good jobs.
