Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities promotes educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities. The department offers vocational assessment and counseling services. It provides assistance with job training, follow-ups and placements. Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities administers more than 35 independent living centers that assist individuals with disabilities to live on their own. It works with school districts, providers of services, parents and advocates to offer special education to students with disabilities throughout New York. In addition, the department offers transition services for infants with disabilities. Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities is a part of the New York State Education Department and maintains a location in Brooklyn.
