Welcome to The Village of Bergen, located in the east-central section of the Town of Bergen which is in the northeast corner of County of Genesee, State of New York. The Town of Bergen was part of the Triangle Tract and the 100, 000 Acre Tract or the Connecticut Tract in the Morris Reserve. It was also part of the towns of Northampton and Murray. In 1813 Bergen was erected from the town of Murray. Byron was part of Bergen until 1820. As you may know the Town of Bergen and the Village of Bergen were working on a joint project of sharing and renovating the Tully Building at the corner of Buffalo St. and Lake. As of September 9, 2008 the Town Board decided against the joint venture and withdrew from the project. I asked John Specht for the reason for this decision, His reply, "The cost of the project has gotten higher then we expected". The village owns this property and we will move forward in renovating the first floor to cover our needs. Our lease will be up in March at our current location, the owner has other uses for this building and will not be renewing our lease. The village office will be moved to a temporary location, most likely in an office trailer while the construction takes place. I'm disappointed of this change in scope and wish the Town the best in their endeavors for more space. I want to thank all that have worked so hard on the building committee. You've done a great job and sacrificed many evenings. Village Residents You may have wondered about all the activity in the front section of the Tulley Building over the past few weeks. The Village crew has been working hard to build temporary offices and a Village board room in the front of the building so we have a place to reside until the complete first floor renovation can proceed. Why are we not just waiting until the entire project is complete until we move in? As you are probably aware, we rent our current office and the ownership of the building on Buffalo Street has changed hands. The new owner has plans for the space we are in, thus the move. Our landlord has given us plenty of notice and has been extremely flexible with us and for that, we are truly grateful...thank you Mike Marsocci from all of us. We hope to be moved in sometime in March, however, no official date has been set. Feel free to peek in the windows and see the progress the next time you walk by! The Board would like to give a special thank you to Joe Chimino, our DPW Supervisor and Tom Williamson, our Code Enforcement Officer, for their countless extra hours of planning and labor they have dedicated to this project. They have saved the taxpayers thousands of dollars and should be commended. If you have any questions or concerns about the project or the move, please don't hesitate to call the office or any Board member. The Village of Bergen has implemented a Village Emergency Information Voice Mailbox For electrical outage information, please call 234-1454.
