The Town of Yorktown was settled in 1683 and incorporated in 1788. It is located in Northern Westchester County and approximately 35 miles north of New York City.
Yorktown is 40 square miles and is made up of five business hamlets -- Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, Jefferson Valley, Crompond, and Yorktown Heights. It covers rolling hills, farmland, residential area and light industry.
The town offers recreational facilities with over 1400 acres of town and state parks. Five miles of the 22-mile North County Trailway bike and pedestrian path passes through Yorktown. It provides residents with a scenic ride or walk through the town.
The Yorktown Community and Cultural Center is home to various activities, including the Yorktown Stage theater, a gymnasium, the Yorktown Teen Center, the Yorktown Senior Nutrition Center, and the Yorktown Museum.
