SUPtown Music & Arts (What's up? Uptown!) Classical music, jazz, fine arts, design, and drama thrive in Uptown Manhattan at SUPtown Music & Arts (813 W 187th St, New York, NY, 917-914-3499). SUPtown -- a creative addition to the Hudson Heights neighborhood of Washington Heights -- sits atop the 187th Street staircase in what is arguably one of Manhattan's most creative neighborhoods. Hudson Heights is home to countless musicians, artists, actors, dancers, playwrights, designers, and architects. SUPtown is a reflection of the creative spirit that thrives in the Heights. With its bold design and location, SUPtown hopes to be an additional place-making symbol of Uptown Manhattan. SUPtown is a compliment to the neighborhood and all who inhabit it -- proof of the enduring spirit of music and arts in New York City.
Specialties
SUPtown Music & Arts, designed by Gigi Gilsinan, co-founded by Gigi & Michael Gilsinan. The idea behind the name is, What's up? Uptown! With our logo showing music & art on the George Washington Bridge, we hope to be an additional placemaking symbol for Uptown, Manhattan. The space functions as a lounge, art gallery, recital stage, and classrooms. SUPtown provides afterschool music, visual art, design, and drama private lessons and group classes. Our music programs include guitar orchestra, string & wind ensembles, choirs, and music theory. Our art & design programs include Young Developer/ Architect Program, Preschool Art Classes, Drawing & Painting Classes for kids and teens, and Paint & Sip for adults. The instruments we offer include piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, flute, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, voice, and koto. Our art classes include drawing, painting, watercolor, oil painting, acrylic painting, and human figure drawing. Our design classes will teach layout, perspective, zoning, modeling, and presentation. We accept students of all ages; children between 3 and 18 years old, college students, adults, and senior citizens. All are welcome. We strive to inspire every student to reach their full potential through our teaching motto --
