Northport Fire Department
The Northport Fire Department was founded in 1889. After several locations, including the current home of Village Hall and the Northport Police Department, the fire department moved to its current location in 1955. The department includes a hook and ladder company, rescue squad, dive patrol squad, EMS and bike patrol. The department's main fundraiser is an annual carnival held at its fairgrounds in Steers Pit each July. The department's members also hold a Santa run each year as well as an open house, a car show and march in the annual Cow Harbor Day Parade. The department established a junior firefighter program for those aged 14 to 18 in 1931. In 1954, the juveniles were named the Smokeaters. In addition to headquarters on Main Street, the department's Station No. 1 is located at 22 Waterside Avenue in Northport.
