The SOS Shelter is a nonprofit organization that offers support services to victims of domestic violence. It can house up to 20 women and children per night. Located in Endicott, N.Y., the organization is a member of the Broome United Way. The SOS Shelter provides counseling services, assistance with food and clothing, activities for children, and advocacy and transportation assistance. It additionally offers referrals to other services in the community, as well as assistance with public entitlement programs, relocation and budgeting and household furnishings. The organization operates a 24-hours helpline service. The SOS Shelter employs advocates who assist victims of domestic violence to obtain orders of protection and custody of children.
