Sinergia is a community-based organization that was founded in 1977. It provides service coordination, information and support to families and individuals with special needs. The organization offers a transitional housing program for homeless families who have children with disabilities. Sinergia also provides community homes for adults with developmental disabilities. It conducts parenting classes for adults with mental illnesses. The organization offers day habilitation, family care and neighborhood preservation programs. It operates the Metropolitan Parent Center, which provides referral and advocacy services for parents who are living in New York City. The organization is a partner of the NYC Resource Consortium. In conjunction with the NYS Office of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities and the NYS Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, Sinergia operates the Sinergia Housing Opportunities & Resource Enhancement Project (SHORE).
