Established in 1955, The Rochester Housing Authority is an independent public corporation that provides housing and related services for lower income families and senior citizens. It operates more than 8,500 housing units throughout the Rochester metropolitan area and serves over 20,000 individuals. The corporation s housing properties feature community rooms, libraries, laundry facilities and picnic areas, as well as a computer laboratory, kid s caf and bowling alley. Located in Rochester, N.Y., it provides a range of senior, family and youth programs, such as community referrals and resident associations. The corporation additionally organizes various recreational activities that include field trips, workshops, and arts and crafts classes. It also offers free transportation, financial counseling and management support services. The Rochester Housing Authority is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
