History
I have a practice in General Pediatrics and also Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics--care for children with physical and mental disabilities. I have worked in New York City, primarily on the West Side for 35 years, and 30 years in private practice. I have served on the staffs of Saint Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and NYU Langone Medical Center. Most recently, I served as director of a demonstration project at Saint Vincent's Hospital for children with special needs. I have continued this work in a private office at Columbus Circle which I opened in 2005.
Specialties
Richard G. Merkler, MD, FAAP, is a general pediatrician who has spent the majority of his career working on the west side of Manhattan in New York City. He values the diversity among his patients, who have come to the city from a wide array of rich backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. While he takes pleasure in caring for children, he specializes in the treatment of children with special needs, including prematurity, cerebral palsy, asthma, ADHD, autism, and rare genetic syndromes. Dr. Merkler earned his medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine, finished his residency at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, and has been practicing for over 20 years -- authoring a medical journal publication during that time. Dr. Merkler is an AAP Fellow and Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. When parents are seeking the right doctor for well-child care or a specialist for complex diagnoses in children, Dr. Merkler is a great fit.
