The Edith G. Read Natural Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a 179-acre sanctuary for a wide variety of marine animals. In close proximity to the Long Island Sound, the sanctuary also has an 85-acre lake that hosts more than 5,000 ducks during the winter months. The national Audubon Society of New York has recognized the sanctuary as an "Important Bird Area" because of its essential habitat and migratory flyway. Three miles of trails are accessible to the public, along with parts of the shore. Visitors will also find some ecology exhibits on display at the sanctuary.
