Established in 1907, the Port Washington Fire Department's headquarters is located across the street from the Police Department on Port Washington Boulevard. In 2004 the department became the largest volunteer fire department in New York. The Port Washington Fire Department's district is an 11-square mile area of the northern peninsula of Nassau county. Located at the southern end of the district, the headquarters building serves as the administrative office for the chiefs as well as
the Port Washington Fire Department Board of Directors ("Fireboard")
Additionally, the garage is used to house apparatus as needed to cover the southern end of the district.
