With more than 2,550 police officers, the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) is one of the largest in the country. The department has more than 200 marked patrol units operating across eight precincts located throughout Nassau County.
The NCPD was founded 85 years ago by the then-County board of supervisors and serves areas in the County, which do not have their own independent police forces.
The command structure is made up of one commissioner, two deputy commissioners, two assistant commissioners, a department chief and the respective precinct heads.
This department has specialized squads such as arson/ bomb, crimes against property, district attorney squad, electronics, forensics, homicide, major offense, investigative services, narcotics, robbery, special investigations and special services.
The NCPD also has an auxiliary police department comprised of volunteers.
