About Penfield Symphony Orchestra The PSO was founded in 1955 under the Adult Education Department of the Penfield Central School System. The orchestra's primary purpose was to provide a recreational musical outlet for graduating Penfield High School music students and other community musicians. In 1972, the Town of Penfield Department of Recreation assumed its sponsorship. In 1982 the PSO was incorporated. As an independent organization it expanded its original mission to culturally enrich the surrounding communities through live performances of symphonic music and educational outreach programs. The PSO's annual schedule includes four symphony concerts performed at Browncroft Community Church and a free "Picnic Pops" concert sponsored by the Town of Penfield every June. The orchestra's concerts feature guest artists of both local and national renown. The PSO is proud to have commissioned many new works over its 52-year history.
