History
Paine Branch Library was originally the Eastwood Library, and became part of the Syracuse Public Library system when Eastwood was annexed by the city in 1926. It was then known as the Eastwood Branch. The present facility, named for local newspaperman and librarian Dr. Paul Mayo Paine, opened on March 19, 1958. Dr. Paine served as the Director of the Syracuse Public Library from 1915-1942.
Specialties
The library collection consists of nearly 20,000 book and media resources, a unique collection of historical materials about the Eastwood community, Internet computers for adults and children, and offers free wireless access. Story time for toddlers and preschoolers is a regular event from September thru May along with several evening PJ story times for the whole family. During vacation times, and especially throughout the summer months, we have special children's programs to encourage reading and minimize summer reading loss. We also provide diverse library programs for the enjoyment and learning of adults and seniors, such as an adult Book Club, the AARP Tax preparation service from Feb through April 15th, and a variety of art displays by local artists and yearly exhibits by Huntington, Blessed Sacrament and Henninger students.
