The Orangetown Police Department was established in 1935 and provides a variety of law enforcement services. It employs more than 90 sworn officers and over 40 auxiliary police officers. The department s records bureau is responsible for the collection and preservation of the department s records and files. Its critical incident response team includes officers who are specially trained in hostage situation negotiations, forcible entry procedures, rescue operations and special assault weapons. The department s commercial vehicle enforcement unit was established in 1997 and enforces federal, state and local commercial vehicle laws. It offers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which provides information about the dangers involved in using drugs, such as alcohol, marijuana and tobacco products. The Orangetown Police Department is located in Orangeburg, N.Y.
