The Open Space Institute works for the protection of scenic, natural and historic landscapes to encourage public enjoyment, habitats conservation, and community character sustainability. It offers land acquisition, conservation easements and regional loan programs. The organization coordinates fiscal sponsorship, creative partnerships and analytical research plans. It has protected more than 100,000 acres of land throughout New York. Additionally, the Open Space Institute provides the Conservation Research Program, which focuses on the development of land use policies and practices through blending research studies, communication and training activities. It also partners with policymakers, landowners, appraisers, economists, foresters, land use planners, land management companies, and public and private organizations to maximize environmental conservation.
