The New York State Insurance Department office is located on the ground floor of this huge brickface building that dominates the Western block of Mineola Boulevard between Cleveland Avenue and Harrison Avenue. The primary role of the office is to license insurance agents and brokers as well as approve all policies in the state, but it also handles complaints and fraud alleged by consumers. The office is located to the immediate right after entering the building, just in front of the staircase leading to the second floor. Packets and brochures are available for many different types of insurance, including health, Medicare, hurricane, flood and auto. Two interview rooms are also on premises where consumers can meet with department representatives. The department also assists Holocaust survivors and their heirs in resolving outstanding insurance claims.
