The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, also known as OASAS, focuses on improving the lives of the residents of New York by providing addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services. It plans, develops and regulates the state s system of chemical dependence and gambling treatment agencies. The organization provides a counselor assistance program that includes assistance and advocacy for people struggling with alcohol and drug abuse problems, as well as gambling, depression, anxiety, stress and other addictions and mental health issues. It also offers outreach and education, advocacy, treatment referral, peer support coordination and policy development services. The organization s training unit provides and sponsors training events to increase knowledge and enhance skills in the delivery of alcoholism and substance abuse related services.
